August Design Horiscopes

Leo

It's the dog days of summer and there'll be times this month when you go into a design funk and think you'll never have another creative idea again. Don't get discouraged. Those brainpower outages usually don't last more than a day or two. However, if by September you're still sitting in front of your computer counting the lint pieces on your screen waiting for that idea light to pop, gather a search party to help find your mind.

Virgo

The 17th is a power day for getting noteworthy praises this month. Strut your stuff on that day but don't flaunt. Remember, what goes up must come down. August is also a humiliating time for you too. The image of huge, scary clown feet you presented to a client for his 'Keep Someone On Their Toes' direct mail piece promoting professional ballet classes, left a few mouths agape.

Libra

Look for a number of design projects this month to be focused on makeovers. However, the makeover bug won't be limited to your work. It will extend to your personal appearance too, something you've wanted to do for a long time but lacked the courage. Co-workers might do a double take when they see the new you—bright yellow braided hair, heart-shaped contact lenses, pierced lip and a tattoo.

Scorpio

Put some flexibility into your work schedule this month around the 20th, there could be some domestic air travel for you. If you have not been on the road in a while, it would be a good idea to check on the latest airline Do's & Don'ts and general flying policies. There are limitations and rules you must follow for carry-on luggage. However, you might want to pack a magnifying glass so you can see and identify your in-flight snack.

Sagittarius

You're anticipating a busy workload after the summer doldrums and you might feel a bit stressed this month knowing what lies ahead. Try to keep things in perspective and take it day by day. Don't engage in needless early worry. However, as a designer, you know the importance of early planning for the onset of seasonal and holiday projects. If you're going to procrastinate, wait until tomorrow.

Capricorn

Capricornians are stable, calm and almost stoic in character. You'll need these sterling qualities to wrap up some lingering projects around the 24th that others have abandoned. You are becoming the backbone of your design team and a major 'finisher' of dangling, unfinished jobs. Don't feel like you're being dumped on. Your creative director and department head will look to you for sorely needed finality. Your work reinforces their belief that, indeed, the end is at hand.

Aquarius

You work best within group projects but you always seem to miss out on the better jobs and big promotions. Try making a bigger impact going solo this month. Take advantage of others on vacation by showing what you can do by yourself when given a project from start to finish. Take charge and be accountable. If you find yourself way over your head, see who's around and then, well, beg for help.

Pisces

You really enjoy listening to music at work while you're designing but don't get too carried away in your headset and become distracted. Use the music as a comforting background to help you concept creatively. Your project load will increase this month around the 27th and you might want to lower the music volume, as your work volume goes up. Keep in mind Pisces, your ruling planet is Neptune, not iTunes.

Aries

Your pioneering spirit allows you to approach your creative director with ill-timed, new project ideas even when stress levels are at the 'alert' stage and near a deadline-induced breaking point. There are a few dangerously bad days late this month when you need to tread lightly, lest you return to your desk carrying your own head. Even your optimism, coated in a quick-wit, will not diffuse such potentially explosive situations. Keep your distance.

Taurus

Like a lawn's patchy, brown blotches that result from a dry, overheated summer, your creative juices are at critically low levels and donning you with that burnt out look of someone who is conceptually parched. Find a way to hydrate your mind with fresh project ideas before the oncoming rush of holiday jobs drains you into a mental desert. At this point, you might need to be hit between the eyes with a super soaker.

Gemini

You love cerebral and confrontational challenges and at times, you're at your best when others seem lost in a fatigued mist. Aggressively attack an unpopular, demanding client's unreasonable project request around the 29th and proudly show your co-workers that fear and timidity do not have a place in the design world. Go ahead and confidently give that client the ol' my way or the highway ultimatum. By the way, when you're cleaning out your desk before picking up your severance pay, avoid eye contact.

Cancer

Look for your most luminous days this month to occur around the 14th and 23rd. Your dedicated work and design talent will shine in what has been a rather dull summer fraught with uninspiring, lingering projects. Keep that spotlight on you for as long as you can because that 'what have you done for me lately?' atmosphere is always prevalent. Remember, you're only as good as your last successful endeavor. Laurels and cubicles are not places to rest.
